Gourds
"I grow the gourds, clean them, cut, burn, paint and embellish with clays, metals, found objects, and fibers. Each vessel begins as something I planted — and ends as a living object with its own presence."
Spider Woman
Shown here is a mixed medium creation titled Spider Woman. Bamboo uprights are woven with fiber. Shells, handmade beads, brass and elk teeth, as well as found materials merge into a form that speaks to the indigenous feminine archetype. Each gourd is grown, harvested, dried, cleaned, and then transformed through a process of burning, painting, and embellishment — a months-long act of patient attention.
